Jerry Murray
Dr. Murray grew up in the Dallas area and graduated from Plano Senior High School. He completed his undergraduate studies in pre-veterinary medicine at Oklahoma State University before attending Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1991. During his education, Dr. Murray also completed an externship in avian and exotic pet medicine at the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine and the Knoxville Zoo.
After graduation, Dr. Murray returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where he worked at a small animal clinic in Carrollton, briefly relocated to Austin, and then returned to Dallas. In 1994, he began practicing in Farmers Branch, where he has spent over 30 years treating small animals. He is widely recognized as a leading veterinarian in ferret medicine and has spoken at numerous national and international conferences, including events in Toronto, Edmonton, and Melbourne. Dr. Murray has authored many articles on ferret care, and he was the primary author for a small mammal medicine series website.
In addition to his expertise in ferrets, Dr. Murray has contributed to several research projects. One of his early studies focused on the management of adrenal gland disease in ferrets, where he explored the use of melatonin implants. He was also involved in the University of Georgia’s Aleutian Disease Virus (ADV) research, co-authoring a published article on the topic in a major veterinarian journal. Dr. Murray contributed to Michigan State University’s study on systemic coronaviruses and authored an article in Veterinary Clinics of North America Exotic Animal Practice. Most recently, he participated in a clinical study that led to FDA approval of Advantage Multi for use in ferrets.
Beyond his special interest in ferrets, Dr. Murray enjoys working with dogs, cats, rabbits, and other pocket pets. He has a passion for medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. In his spare time, Dr. Murray enjoys watching sports, traveling, and wildlife photography.
